Monday Out

Aujourd'hui nous avons eu l'honneur de recevoir la visite de Marie-Pierre Koban, la fondatrice de l'Alliance Nantes-Seattle, qui nous a accompagné toute la journée.
Dans le froid et un crachin très 'breton', nous avons visité le centre-ville de Seattle : Pioneer Square et le marché couvert de Pike Place Market.


Mais laissons Guillaume nous raconter la journée.

Demain c'est "school day" pour nos 'Frenchies'. Bonne journée à tous.

Last weekend's snow!!!

Here's my article for the blog and a few photos. I am not really sure there are not any faults... Have a nice evening.

Okay now, what about Monday?
As we were told, in the all beginning of Monday morning, we met Mr. Mitchell. After having singing two American songs (and dancing for some of us), covered by the guitar of the American teacher, we have taken a bus… Normally, you will ask me “But, Guillaume, please tell us, where did this bus take you, you and your friends?”. I answer: there is in Seattle, a really nice place called downtown, where we could find the “Pike Place Market”… Here we were explained by Marie-Pierre Koban the story of some buildings and of course the one of the market. We were also showed the way that the fishmongers throw fishes to their colleagues.

Edgar and I also danced in front of a huge indian totem.

I have eaten my meal in a Starbucks Coffee (another one), with Laure, Ombeline, Mona and Pauline. And we learned something important (thinking we were given fake money) : the color of the dollars is different depending of the state you are in… However, maybe it is a lie from the bartender and we really were given fake money, we will never know;). (NO ! THAT'S WRONG! ndlr)
In the afternoon, I stayed at school, waiting for the end of the classes. For dinner, I went in a Chinese restaurant with Claire, my correspondent, and her father. And I did not use any fork or knife:), just chopsticks; you cannot imagine how much I am proud. When we were backing home, Claire’s teacher of guitar arrived. That’s why I enjoyed improving my playing…
To conclude, everybody here looks really nice and welcoming… I think I will not want to leave Seattle :)…

Rain, rain, rain

Week-end très pluvieux sur Seattle. La neige a fondu partout car les températures ont remonté (environ 4°).
Voici quelques commentaires et photos de certains élèves sur leur premier week-end en famille.

Louis

This weekend was really fun. First and foremost, we played tennis on Friday evening and went to Drew's grandparents' house to celebrate his uncle Brian's birthday. Thanks to Drew's grandmother, I ate typical American food : mashed potatoes and beef. Yum ! On Saturday afternoon, we visited the Pacific Science Center, where we watched an Imax film (a truely impressive story of Shackelton's adventure in Antartica), walked with butterflies, saw the most spooky insects, tested our body (reflects, strength, vison...) and attended to a laser show on the Beatles. In the evening, we had dinner in "the old spaghetti factory" which is a famous restaurant in Seattle. I ate a delicious "entrée": a big plate of spicy noodles and finished with the famous spumoni ice cream.

On Sunday, we watched a tennis game in University of Washington (the Huskies won !). The players were really good and the field really nice. Afterwards, I visited the flight museum with Pierre-Louis, Edgar and Caroline. We entered Air Force One and a Concorde. Moreover, we saw airplanes from WWI and WWII and impressive ships such as the Blackbird.

In the evening, we watched the University of Washington's basketball team match. Go Huskies !!

I really enjoyed this weekend : it was really entertaining, fun and interesting. Besides, I learned more about American culture, food...

Pauline

Pour commencer le week-end, je suis allée au 1er match de volley de Emily, sœur de Sarah, ma correspondante. Et l'après-midi, balade dans le centre ville de Kirkland et pause chocolat chaud dans un Starbucks. Lors de notre promenade nous avons aperçu un mariage (sous la pluie et il faisait 0°C). Pour finir la journée, nous avons mangé dans un restaurant thaïlandais, c'était ma première fois et maintenant je sais que les thaïlandais aiment bien les épices  . Dimanche matin, petit déjeuner français (pain au chocolat et croissant). Puis direction l'église de Kirkland « Holy Family Parish Church ». L'après-midi, visite du « Museum of Glass » a Tacoma, très intéressant. Pour finir, cinéma avec ma correspondante et une amie, pour aller voir « I’m number four ».
